Nothing can mimic human breast milk; it is the most natural baby food there is and contains everything your baby needs to thrive for the first six months (see our breastfeeding benefits page). Despite this, if, for whatever reason, breastfeeding is not an option, formula milk can still give your baby a good start.
- Bottle fed babies need to be fed less often.
- You know exactly how much milk your baby has had.
- You do not need to be present each time the baby has to be fed – bottle feeding allows others to share in the joy of feeding baby. While feeding baby is a joy for many, wanting a break once in a while is perfectly natural. Bottle feeding also helps Dad get involved and bond with baby.
- Formula milk has added Vitamin K, a deficiency of which can cause haemorrhagic disease of the newborn (HDN), a serious condition that effects 1 in 10,000 babies.
